Often we get the comment that “Unit Standards aren’t going to exist anymore” or “Schools won’t be using Unit Standards from 2011”. This demonstrates the level of confusion that is out there about what is happening as a result of the Curriculum and Standards Review.
Any Standards that are directly derived from the NZ Curriculum will be expired if there is an equivalent Achievement Standard and if there isn’t then it will be rewritten as an Achievement Standard. There will however continue to be some Unit Standards available for Literacy and Numeracy. Other Unit Standards (i.e. non-curriculum derived) may still be used in schools. e.g. Communication Skills/ Core Generic or Early Childhood Education etc.
Keep in mind that these changes affect Level 1 in 2011, Level 2 in 2012 and Level 3 in 2013.
Instant is planning to offer assessments for some internally assessed Achievement Standards and is currently seeking to partner with some schools that have been successful in writing their own assessment material in the past. If your school is interested then get in touch with us.
